NBA Coach of the Year Favorites in 2024-2025
Kenny Atkinson, Cleveland Cavaliers (-115)
Atkinson’s odds to win this award were as long as +3000 at some sportsbooks ahead of the season, but he’s now the NBA Coach of the Year favorite after Cleveland’s electric 19-3 start.
The Cavs were a good but not great team under previous head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, but the team struggled with chemistry and schematic issues. That’s why Cleveland brought in Atkinson, a former head coach with the Brooklyn Nets who was working as an assistant with the Golden State Warriors.
For now, this is Atkinson’s award to lose.
Ime Udoka, Houston Rockets (+300)
Speaking of teams that have grown from last season’s failures, Udoka has helped vault the Rockets into the playoff picture in the loaded Western Conference after missing out on the Play-In Tournament last year.
After helping Houston improve by 19 wins last year, Udoka has helped his team take another leap this year. The Rockets are 15-7 and are the No. 2 seed in the West.
As he did during his lone season with the Celtics, Udoka has dramatically improved Houston’s defense, helping the team win consistently despite its offensive limitations.
Favorite to Win NBA Coach of the Year in 2024-25
As of now, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Kenny Atkinson is favored to win NBA Coach of the Year. Cleveland has the best record in the NBA at 19-3, so that isn’t surprising.
There’s still a long way to go, but he will remain a top candidate if he keeps his team in contention for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
