With Caitlin Clark lighting up March Madness for the Iowa Hawkeyes, basketball fans are already wondering what’s next for the Division I all-time leading scorer.
Clark, a senior, declared for the 2024 WNBA Draft. She also received a $5 million offer in late March to join Ice Cube’s Big3 League. It’s unclear if Clark could play in both.
Regardless, she’s going to be in the April 15 WNBA Draft.
You might be curious if it’s possible to wager on Clark’s draft position, similar to how you can place wagers on other drafts like the NFL Draft and NBA Draft.
We’ll explain why you can’t bet on Clark in the draft via regulated online sportsbooks.
Caitlin Clark WNBA Draft Odds
You can’t wager on Clark going No. 1 to the Indiana Fever in the draft, as odds aren’t available at regulated online sportsbooks.
States haven’t approved the WNBA Draft as a legal sports betting market, whereas the drafts for sports like the NBA, NFL and MLB have been approved for wagering in many states.
Sportsbooks have little incentive to offer draft bets on Clark, as she’s a lock to go first overall to Indiana. She’s arguably the greatest player in women’s college basketball history.
If there were odds on Clark going No. 1, they’d be similar to the -20000 odds that San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama had in the 2023 NBA Draft.
You could argue Clark would be an even bigger favorite to go first, maybe as significant as -50000.
This probably isn’t disappointing news for basketball bettors, as you’d need to risk many thousands of dollars on Clark to profit the equivalent of a cup of coffee.
Sportsbooks do offer odds on Clark’s performance in the upcoming WNBA season, including her futures odds to win WNBA MVP.
WNBA Top Draft Pick History
Clark will join an elite list of former WNBA Draft No. 1 picks. Remarkably, the Indiana Fever have the opportunity to pick first in back-to-back years after taking Aliyah Boston first overall in 2023.
