The first Emmy Awards were handed out in 1949, but only to honor television shows produced and broadcast in and around Hollywood. By the mid-1950s, the Emmys went national, and it’s been an annual staple ever since, with millions of viewers tuning in to see which of their favorite actors, actresses and shows receive the highest industry accolades.
The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will take place Monday, Sept. 12 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, with the show airing live on NBC at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
As is the case every year, millions of television fans across the country will throw Emmy Awards watch parties, many of which will come with a side of betting action in the form of picks pools. Participants make selections from the list of nominees in multiple categories — from Outstanding Comedy Series to Lead Actress in a Drama Series to Outstanding Variety Series — with the person making the most correct selections being declared the pool’s winner.
Sportsbooks have capitalized on this phenomenon by posting Emmy Awards betting odds ahead of each year’s broadcast. The 2022 Emmy Awards are no different — although, as always, there’s a catch.
Where Can You Bet On The Emmys 2022?
Short answer: You can’t — at least not in the United States.
Betting on the Emmy Awards is not legal in any U.S. jurisdiction, including states that permit sports betting. However, if you happen to be overseas, certain parts of Europe allow wagering on the Emmys.
At this point, you might be asking, “Why do U.S. sportsbooks post Emmy Awards odds when they can’t take action on them?” Two words: Cheap marketing.
Although Emmy Awards wagering remains banned in America, four states have given sportsbooks the greenlight to accept bets on the Academy Awards (Oscars). New Jersey was the first to do so in 2019 — marking the first time in U.S. history bettors could wager on a non-sporting competition — and the Garden State was followed by Indiana (2020), Michigan (2021) and Louisiana (2022).
For now, the Oscars remain the only exception in these four states. So if you want to legally bet on this year’s Emmy Awards — or, say, an upcoming political election — you’ll have to jump across The Pond and find a betting shop where it’s legal.
With all that said, 2022 Emmy Awards odds are available to peruse, even if just “for entertainment purposes only” (and, perhaps, for a friendly wagering pool).
So … let’s peruse!
