The Green Bay Packers (6-6) have been hot in the second half of the 2023 NFL schedule. They have won four of their last five games and will travel to New Jersey to battle the New York Giants (4-8) on Monday night.
Packers quarterback Jordan Love has been phenomenal the past few weeks, but he will face a Giants team with plenty of momentum. Rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito has stepped up for New York in Daniel Jones’ absence, breathing life into the Giants’ mediocre offense.
DeVito is 2-1 as a starter and looking for his third straight win.
Neither of these iconic NFC franchises has great Super Bowl odds at the moment. Green Bay is fighting for a playoff spot with 70/1 championship odds.
New York is a long shot in the futures market at 500/1.
Moneyline
Green Bay is the much better team in this contest, reflected in its moneyline odds.
But it’s steep price for a road team with a .500 record. We still trust the Packers to win, but our betting strategy is geared toward the spread and total.
After a rocky start, Love has dramatically improved in his first full season as Green Bay’s quarterback after taking over for Aaron Rodgers. He has thrown eight touchdowns with no interceptions over the past three games, completing at least 67% of his passes in all three contests, averaging 285.7 passing yards per game.
Love is coming off a big win over Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. He’s a dangerous quarterback and will be tough for the Giants to stop.
New York has one of the worst defenses in the NFL, ranking 26th in points allowed per game and 28th in yards allowed. Look for Love to stay hot here and lead the Packers to a fourth straight victory.
Point Spread
Green Bay is a 6.5-point road favorite on the spread market, but we prefer the Giants at +6.5.
New York doesn’t have much upside, but it has been a different team with DeVito under center. The Giants upset the Washington Commanders 31-19 on the road in Week 11 and edged Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots in Week 12.
Coming off a bye and with home-field advantage, New York will be rested and ready to pick up where it left off on Monday.
This is a perfect letdown spot for the Packers, who are laying 6.5 points despite being 2-4 straight up on the road. Green Bay’s hot and is 7-5 against the spread in 2023, but the Giants will put up a fight.
DeVito is capable of matching Love through the air. In his past three games, DeVito has six touchdown passes to just one interception despite lacking quality receivers.
New York also has a potential game-changer in Saquon Barkley. The star running back has surpassed 100 scrimmage yards in four of his last six games and will have fresh legs after the bye week.
Even if the G-Men don’t win, DeVito and Barkley should do enough to help them keep the final score within a touchdown.
Over/Under
The Over/Under is 36.5 – one of this week’s lowest totals.
The Under has been more common on Monday Night Football this year, but we’re fading that trend and going with the Over on such a low line.
Both offenses have come alive lately thanks to the strong play of Love and DeVito.
The Packers average 21.5 points per game, but have scored at least 23 points in three straight games. That streak should continue against the Giants, who allow 24.3 points per game.
New York’s offense has been less consistent but is trending in the right direction. The Giants average 19.3 points per game during DeVito’s starts despite facing two tough defenses in the Patriots and Dallas Cowboys.
Green Bay’s defense is solid but can be scored upon. The Packers have yielded at least 17 points in every game except one this season.
With both offenses heating up, they should combine for enough points to hit the Over on Monday night.
Player Prop
A playable prop bet is Tommy DeVito Over 170.5 Passing Yards (-115).
DeVito has surpassed this total in three of his last four games despite not starting the first game in that run. He only managed 86 passing yards against the Cowboys in his first career start, but he hasn’t had many issues throwing the ball otherwise.
DeVito has completed at least 68% of his passes in three of his last four games, so accuracy hasn’t been a problem.
He’ll likely need to throw often to keep up with Love. He can also afford to be aggressive pushing the ball downfield against Green Bay’s secondary, which only has six interceptions this year (25th in NFL).
Bank on another solid passing effort from DeVito.
