Let’s get a few things out of the way. Number one: The Bears are a good football team. Number two: they should’ve won last week—legitimately, a pair of no-calls later admitted to by the league changed the course of the game, leading Chicago to a brutal 35-32 loss against the Dolphins.
The silver lining? The Bears +4 spread and our Justin Fields passing TD prop both hit.
Week 10 brings an NFC North rivalry match to Soldier field. The 2-6 Lions play the 3-6 (ugh, hurts to type) Bears. Detroit beat the Packers last week, which has to feel good for an ailing NFC North team. The four weeks prior added up to four losses for the Lions, though, two close games and two blowout defeats.
The Bears enter this match-up as narrow favorites, and fans of both midwestern teams anticipate a heated contest.
Spread, Moneyline, Total: Lions Vs. Bears
We’re still frustrated by last week’s “loss” to the Dolphins, but Week 10 presents an opportunity for redemption on the moneyline. At -155, there’s plenty of value if you bet on the Bears, and that’s our recommendation.
Fields finally looks like he has his sea legs. He’s got weapons now, especially with Claypool on the roster. The Pittsburgh expat only nabbed two catches for 13 yards last week, but the game was played with efficiency. Fields threw for 123 yards and three touchdowns. If Darnell Mooney (one receiving TD) and Cole Kmet (two receiving TDs) can capture the same magic they did last week, and Claypool spreads his wings during his second week as a Bear, sparks could fly. We think a Bears victory is a playable bet this week.
As for the spread, we’re not too keen on it. Lions +2.5 doesn’t even give Detroit a field goal to work with. Chicago could win handily and cover, but the odds barely beat the moneyline at -155. Divisional match-ups are usually close, so the spread is a risky play.
Our first question about the total was: why is it so high? Then we reviewed the last three Bears; scoring totals: 32 points, 29 points and 33 points. But the Lions? 15 points, 27 points and 6 points.
Both teams have had big scoring weeks this season, but 48.5 feels outrageously high for a contentious game. If you get the itch to bet the total, we like the under here, but don’t feel strongly about it.
Player Prop Bets: Lions Vs. Bears
This week, we have two player props. The second one is a bit silly, but it’s too much fun to pass up.
- Justin Fields Over 1.5 Passing TDs (+190)
It’s a tad risky, but Fields has shown flashes of brilliance over the past few weeks. In the Bears’ bout against the Dolphins, Fields threw for three touchdowns. He threw two against the Cowboys the week prior. The second-year QB has been earning his stripes, and we expect another strong showing against the Lions.
- Jared Goff Over 3.5 Rushing Yards (-105)
On one end of this matchup, you have an explosive run threat behind center. On the other end, you have Jared Goff. 3.5 yards rushing is the type of line that’s just fun to bet on. One late-play burst could win this bet. Stranger things, folks. Jared Goff ran for four yards against the Cowboys, then three yards against the Dolphins, and a loss of one yard against the Packers. In other words, exercise caution, but as we said, a scramble could make this bet hit in a single play.
Our Same-Game Parlay
Here’s our same-game parlay for the Lions-Bears game, combining three bets for a better payout than any offers individually.
- Chicago Bears Moneyline (-155)
- Chicago Bears Total Points Over 23.5 (-160)
- Justin Fields Over 124.5 Passing Yards (-425)
Call it the “Hopeful Bears Fan” parlay. In reality, it’s a viable bet.
The Bears have put up more than 24 points in three straight games. The offense is coming together, and Fields is developing chemistry with his receiving targets. Add Khalil Herbert and David Montogmery into the mix, and you’ve got a dynamic offensive roster built to score points.
24 or more points plus a win combines well with the Fields Over 124.5 passing yards prop. We like the low-ish number for the QB only because he’s so quick on his feet. Fields will pass the ball when he needs to, but he’ll also take off running (and often find the endzone) when he needs to. We like him to exceed the 124.5 line, but we don’t expect astronomical passing numbers this week.
This SGP has odds of +160. A $100 bet would pay $160 plus your original wager.
