The 3-7 Chicago Bears head south to the warmth of Atlanta for an NFC matchup against the 4-6 Falcons this weekend.
The Bears continued their rollercoaster season with another brutal loss in Week 10, coming up short by one point in a 31-30 defeat to the Detroit Lions in an NFC North rivalry game. Chicago squandered yet another marvelous performance by Justin Fields and has now lost six of its last seven, tumbling to last place in the division in the process.
The Falcons have also hit a rough patch with back-to-back losses, including an ugly defeat at the hands of the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football. However, they’re still only one game behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South, so a win here, while they’re on bye, is critical.
Which slumping team will bounce back with a win here? Let’s take a look at the lines for this week.
Spread, Moneyline, Total: Bears Vs. Falcons
With both teams coming in cold, this game is evenly matched both on the field and at the sportsbooks, where the Falcons are a customary three-point spread favorite at home. Both clubs have often found themselves in close games this year, especially the Bears, whose last two games have been decided by four points combined.
We like Chicago with the points here. Sure, Khalil Herbert’s out, but Fields is as capable a running threat as any of the team’s running backs. Last week, for instance, he ran for more yards (147) than the rest of the team combined (111). Herbert’s absence will surely be felt, but the three-point advantage might be all the Bears need to secure a win for bettors this week.
With such a close matchup between two similar teams, we don’t like either side of the moneyline in particular. We’d instead take the spread and get a few points of insurance on the Chicago.
The total is where things get fun this week. Totals for Bears games have been steadily rising as their offense has caught fire and their defense has collapsed, and this week we’ve got the line at 49 total points. Three straight Chicago games have gone over that total, and both defenses rank among the worst in the league in terms of points allowed, making the over a reasonable play.
Player Prop Bets: Bears Vs. Falcons
Let’s go with a few TD scorer prop bets this week. As mentioned, we expect a high-scoring matchup, so we’ll spread the love on both sides of the field.
- Justin Fields Anytime TD Scorer (+100)
Fields has logged at least one rushing touchdown in four straight games, including two last week. With Herbert out for at least four weeks, Fields is Chicago’s best runner and should continue to get plenty of looks near the goal line. Bet on him extending his scoring streak for at least one more week.
- Cordarrelle Patterson Anytime TD Scorer (-120)
Patterson’s volume has been all over the place this year, but his scoring opportunities have remained steady. His versatility as a runner and a pass-catcher makes him an invaluable weapon for Marcus Mariota in the red zone, helping him tally five touchdowns in six games so far. After being held scoreless in a quiet Week 10, look for him to bounce back and find the end zone on Sunday.
Player passing/rushing props aren’t live yet at the time of writing, but we’ll be eyeing the Fields rushing line when it goes live as something to consider if you’re not into touchdown props.
Our Same-Game Parlay
As stated, we’re banking on many points this week, reflected in our same-game parlay:
- Chicago Bears Over 24.5 Points (+135)
- Justin Fields Anytime TD Scorer (-105)
- Marcus Mariota Anytime TD Scorer (+135)
The Bears have scored at least 29 points in four straight games, so they shouldn’t have any trouble scoring 25 here, especially against a Falcons defense that has surrendered 25+ points in three of its last four games.
Fields, as mentioned, is always a threat to take it in himself. Without Herbert, he’s an even stronger contender to bring the ball home.
Marcus Mariota is the spicier of the three picks, but there’s value in the prop. He isn’t the strongest passer but regularly runs the ball for at least a few dozen yards, surpassing 20 rushing yards in six straight games. This week, we think that steady volume results in a touchdown for Atlanta’s QB.
