The world’s best golfers descend upon the Renaissance Club for the Genesis Scottish Open with a $9 million purse on the line.
Last year’s tournament, which included eight of the world’s top 10 players at the time, featured plenty of magic and drama. Rory Mcllroy fended off a late run from Robert MacIntyre, birdying the final two holes to finish 15-under and take home the win.
Ridiculous approach on 18 from @McIlroyRory ?
He’ll have a good look at birdie for the win @ScottishOpen. pic.twitter.com/BlSgIMGVrC

What Are The Stakes Of The Tournament?
This year’s Scottish Open takes place the week before The Open Championship, making it the last chance for golfers to qualify for the final major of the year. The top three finishers who haven’t already qualified for The Open receive an automatic entry into the tournament.
For golfers who have already qualified for The Open, the Scottish Open is a final tune-up to help them prepare. It also provides ample time to adjust to the time difference and shake off any jet lag.
There’s some serious money up for grabs, too. This year’s event has a $9 million purse, including $1.58 million for the winner.
The winner also earns 500 FedExCup points. With only four events remaining in the FedExCup regular season, these points are incredibly valuable as players look to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs.
What Is The Course Like?
The Renaissance Club is located in North Berwick, Scotland, a seaside town about 20 miles east of Edinburgh. It has hosted the Scottish Open since 2019.
The Tom Doak course opened in 2008 and has also hosted the Ladies Scottish Open and Scottish Senior Open. The par 70 course plays up to 7,237 yards, making it one of the shorter courses on the PGA Tour.
The course has been co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour since 2022. There are five par 3’s, nine par 4’s and four par 5’s. The longest hole is 601 yards (hole 3) and the shortest is 148 yards (hole 6).
When the weather’s right, the course isn’t overly challenging. The elevated greens can be tricky and wind is often a factor, but wide fairways provide some margin for error.
Who Are The Favorites?
McIlroy has the shortest tournament winner odds at +800. The defending champion at this event, McIlroy has the second-best PGA Tour ranking behind Scottie Scheffler. He’s coming off a brutal one-stroke loss to Bryson DeChambeau at the U.S. Open last month and will look to put that disappointing finish behind him.
The 2022 Scottish Open winner, Xander Schauffele, has the second-shortest odds at +900. He has the third-best PGA Tour ranking and has been on an incredible run lately, finishing T25 or better in his last 11 tournaments.
Ludvig Aberg and Collin Morikawa are tied for the third-best odds at +1600. Aberg’s been playing well recently with three straight top-30 finishes, including two in the top 12. Morikawa’s also on a roll coming off six straight top-20 finishes.
