The World Series was a back-and-forth affair over the first two games in Houston and now heads east to Philadelphia locked at 1-1. The Phillies have not been beaten yet at Citizens Bank Park this postseason with a spotless 5-0 record, while the Astros have yet to lose on the road in the playoffs (3-0). One of those streaks will end in Game 3.
Houston is giving the ball to Lance McCullers to start this pivotal swing game. The righty made just eight starts this season after dealing with a forearm injury for most of the year, but he still came back strong to go 4-2 with a 2.27 ERA. He’s continued to pitch well in the postseason with a 2.45 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 11 innings thus far. McCullers has also had great success against Philadelphia’s lineup, holding the Phillies to a .214 average with a single home run and 18 strikeouts in 56 at-bats.
As for the home team, they’re taking a chance on trade acquisition Noah Syndergaard in Game 3. Thor has a lot of name recognition, but he hasn’t been the dominant force he once was in New York. Instead, he’s been used as a starter and a reliever in the playoffs, giving up one run in 5 ⅓ innings so far. He’ll look to maintain that success against a Houston lineup that’s batted just .188 with one extra-base hit against him in 32 at-bats.
Given the Astros’ roster, road success and sight advantage on the mound, it’s not surprising to see them as baseball betting favorites for Game 3 based on the odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.
Our Best Bet Today
This is a tough call. The Phillies have dominated the playoffs at home, but it’s hard to trust Syndergaard, given his limited workload over the past month. He also struggled the last time he faced the Astros, giving up three runs in four innings back on July 12.
We’re not too keen on McCullers in this spot, either. He’s coming off a rough showing against the New York Yankees in the ALCS and struggles with his command, as evidenced by his 4.2 BB/9 this season.
With that in mind, we’re going to side with the offenses and make a play on the total. With potent offenses and question marks on the mound for both sides, this is a great spot to grab the over.
Same-Game Parlay: Astros vs. Phillies
Parlays are a way to increase the odds and potential payout as opposed to making bets separately. For more information, check out our guide on how to bet on same-game parlay.
Here are three prop bets we’ve selected for World Series Game 3:
- J.T. Realmuto to Record a Hit (-195)
- Bryce Harper to Hit a Single (+105)
- Kyle Tucker to Record an RBI (+130)
We are returning to the well with J.T. Realmuto to earn another hit in Game 3. He’s hit safely in four straight games and 10 of 13 overall in these playoffs, so we’ll ride the momentum there and bank on him to get another knock.
We also like Harper to get a hit in Game 3, specifically a single. He just saw his 11-game hitting streak snap, but look for him to start a new one tonight after hitting .392 in the postseason so far.
The third and final leg of our Game 3 same-game parlay is for Kyle Tucker to record an RBI. Tucker has already gone deep twice in this series and driven in four runs over the first two games. After popping 30 home runs during the regular season, the Astros outfielder could cash this prop with one bat swing.
Combining this trio of wagers into a same-game parlay raises the odds to +684 at FanDuel. At those odds, a winning $100 bet would return $684 in profits along with your original wager.
