FanDuel is one of the biggest names in North American sports betting.
Already a household name thanks to its strong daily fantasy sports (DFS) background, it launched a highly successful and popular sportsbook after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in 2018.
While sports betting first debuted in Florida in late 2021, it was only available in the state for five weeks before being “temporarily suspended” due to litigation challenging the state’s gaming compact.
That suspension lasted nearly two years before the state relaunched sports betting on Nov. 7, 2023. Retail sports betting went live in the state the following month, re-opening the door for sports betting in the Sunshine State.
Is FanDuel Legal in Florida?
No, FanDuel isn’t legal in Florida despite being one of America’s biggest sports betting brands.
While sports betting is legal in Florida, it’s only available online via the Hard Rock Bet app or in person at any of the state’s six Hard Rock Sportsbooks.
Florida’s limited sports betting options started with the passage of Amendment 3, which prevented Florida’s lawmakers from passing gambling expansions without the Seminole Tribe’s approval. That amendment spurred two different casinos to file lawsuits against the Department of the Interior along with an anti-gambling group.
Florida responded by suspending sports betting for nearly two years before permitting Hard Rock Bet to relaunch on Nov. 7, 2023. In-person sports betting went live a month later on Dec. 7.
Hard Rock Bet will likely be Florida’s only online sportsbook for the foreseeable future, as the Seminole Tribe is locked in multiple court cases with the state that likely won’t end until 2025 at the earliest. Until those court cases are settled, other sportsbooks won’t be able to enter the state.
That said, FanDuel’s DFS platform is legal in Florida. If you’re at least 18 years old and physically present in the state, you can use FanDuel DFS.
FanDuel Florida Promotion
FanDuel doesn’t have a new-user promotion in Florida because it isn’t legal in the state.
While FanDuel has a special welcome offer for new customers in other states, this promotion isn’t available in Florida.
These promotions are meant to attract new users and often involve offers like getting bonus bets for wagering a small amount of money. They allow new customers to test out the sportsbook and explore different betting markets to see how they like the experience.
Sportsbooks also have offers for existing users like odds boosts and referral bonuses, but they are not as large as the welcome offers for first-time customers.
