Despite waning star power due to many losses and scandals, Conor McGregor is still the UFC’s most notable fighter.
On Feb. 4, 2023, the UFC announced that the Irishman would face fan-favorite Michael Chandler in the second half of 2023. At of the start of “TUF” in late May 2023, McGregor versus Chandler still hadn’t been scheduled. UFC President Dana White indicated that he was trying to make the fight for sometime in 2023.
Fast forward to 2024, and McGregor and Chandler were finally scheduled to fight on June 29 at UFC 303 in Las Vegas. However, the fight was abruptly canceled about two weeks before the event. A new date hasn’t been rescheduled.
Sports betting sites posted odds for the match even before a weight class wasn’t confirmed. The fight was eventually booked to take place at 170 pounds, the UFC’s welterweight division. McGregor and Chandler have fought in the 155-pound lightweight division.

McGregor and Chandler never officially faced off ahead of their fight, but in March 2023 some images of the two men looking directly at each other in an octagon were posted to McGregor’s social media.
