As mentioned above, this is a rematch of Alcaraz’s incredible come-from-behind win in last year’s final.

The young Spaniard lost the first set 1-6 but got back in the match by winning an 85-minute second set 7-6, knocking Djokovic down to the proverbial canvas. Alcaraz rode that surprising win to a 6-1 win in the third set before Djokovic won the fourth set 6-3, setting up a winner-take-all fifth set. Alcaraz won 6-4, completing the comeback and historic upset.

When Djokovic ended the match by sending a shot into the net, Alcaraz rolled around in the Centre Court grass with a smile that was probably visible from outer space.

Not only did the win vault Alcaraz into a new tennis pantheon, but it also ended Djokovic’s pursuit of history. Not only was Djokovic attempting to become the third man in the Open era to win five consecutive Wimbledons, but he was also going for a calendar Grand Slam.

Now, these two titans of the sport will do battle again.

The 21-year-old Alcaraz enters the final on the back of a four-set win over Daniil Medvedev that saw him storm back after losing the first set 7-6. Alcaraz’s toughest test at Wimbledon came in the third round when he outlasted American Francis Tiafoe in five sets.

Djokovic’s biggest test also came in the third round against Australian Alexei Popyrin, who took the 37-year-old Serbian to four sets. In the following round, Djokovic defeated Holger Rune in straight sets and played into his heel reputation by getting into it with the crowd over their chants of “Rune,” which Djokovic perceived as “boos” in his direction.

After an easy win over Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinal, Djokovic recorded a 6-4, 7-6 (2), 6-4 victory over Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinal.

Djokovic has now made a record 36 Grand Slam finals and will tie Roger Federer for the most Wimbledon titles (8) if he beats Alcaraz. His first win at Wimbledon came in 2011 when he defeated Rafal Nadal in four sets.

Even more impressively, Sunday’s match will mark 40 days since Djokovic underwent surgery for a medial meniscus tear on his right knee, which he sustained during a win over Francisco Cerundolo at the French Open.

Djokovic has always been considered a physical specimen, but his dominant performance at Wimbledon this year has moved him into a different category.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Novak Djokovic Best Bets

  • Carlos Alcaraz Moneyline (-160)

Although a legacy isn’t built in one match, we think Alcaraz adds another incredible victory to his ledger on Sunday with a win over Djokovic. The Spaniard has looked unbeatable so far at Wimbledon and is coming off a five-set win over Alexander Zverev at the French Open.

While Djokovic is one of the best to ever do it on grass, Alcaraz’s shifty, powerful style has made him the new king of the green. We recommend backing the defending champ on the moneyline.

  • Novak Djokovic To Win First Set (+110)

While we think Alcaraz will win the match, he’s been a slow starter at Wimbledon this year. Not only has he lost the first set in three of his matches at the tournament, but two of his three wins also ended up going to a tiebreaker.

Djokovic, on the other hand, tends to start fast. He’s lost only one first set at Wimbledon this year and has won the first set in four of his five career matchups against Alcaraz. This is going to be an odyssey, and Djokovic will likely land the first punch. This is a playable prop bet at plus odds.

  • Match To Go Five Sets (+185)

Just like last year, this is going to be another slugfest. As long as Djokovic’s knee doesn’t act up and limit his mobility, the rematch should go the full five sets as well.

Don’t let the 16-year age gap fool you; these two are contemporaries who know each other like the back of their rackets. For every overpowering serve from Alcaraz, there will be a physics-defying shot from Djokovic in response.

While the oddsmakers think this will end in four sets (+145), we expect it to go the distance.
